About these notices
- The fire list is wildfire data from NIFC's national incident feed, checked about every 15 minutes. It shows fires reported by the agencies fighting them, so a new fire can take time to appear and the size and containment can be behind what is happening on the ground.
- The air-quality index is AirNow's current reading from the nearest monitor, which can be miles away. It is preliminary data that has not been fully checked and can change. The color and category follow the EPA's standard index ranges.
- If we cannot confirm the data is recent, we show nothing rather than an old number.
